Michael Bunnell is Executive Director and a founding member of the Coalition of Independent Record Stores (CIMS). He began his career in the music business over 40 years ago when he opened The Record Exchange in Boise, Idaho. As a founding member of CIMS, Bunnell had a significant role in the creation of the organization, helping develop and revise the organization’s operating agreement. In late 2008, he assumed the position of Executive Director of CIMS following a lengthy term as the Chair of the Board of Directors. Bunnell also helped open and develop Think Indie Distribution, which handles distribution of unique physical goods to the independent music store sector. He also helps manage Record Store Day with his partners in the DORS and AIMS coalitions. Bunnell brings a veteran retail perspective to his current position, and his focus is providing content and promotional opportunities to independent music stores.
