Sam Gay

Sales Director | Stoughton Printing

Sam was born and raised in San Francisco where, as the youngest of four children, he was lucky enough to grow up listening to his siblings’ record collections and getting lost in the album artwork. A packaging geek was born.

He began his career at the cutting-edge independent I.R.S Records where he was mentored in all aspects of artwork production, post-recording music production and manufacturing. He moved on to become Creative Services Director for JVC Music and then the same for the EMI-Capitol Records Catalog where his love for packaging and box sets was set into action having the privilege to work on projects by The Band, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Nat King Cole, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., Radiohead, The Rolling Stones and Frank Sinatra.

After seven years EMI, he was lured to the other side of the desk to become a packaging print salesperson for the one and only Album Graphics Incorporated (AGI), where he was able to work with some of their key music and video accounts such as Universal Music, Virgin Records, Epitaph Records, Rhino Entertainment and Disney Home Entertainment. While at AGI, he helped establish a sustainability team with members from sourcing, quality control, production planning, special packaging, manufacturing and marketing, with a focus on the importance of a solid environmental vision for print and packaging.

Now working at Stoughton Printing Company, Sam has found his packaging dream job. If you don’t know about Stoughton, you need to…a Southern California family owned firm that has been serving the recording business for over 50 years and has produced what many regard as the highest quality packaging in the music industry including their world renowned specialty Old Style Tip-on Jackets®.
