This interactive workshop at Making Vinyl Europe, September 24-26, 2025, brings together diverse voices, including yours, to explore the challenges and potential of physical music formats in the context of sustainability. Through a mix of systems thinking, creative dialogue, and hands-on prototyping, participants will explore new possibilities for the future of physical music.
We begin by setting the stage with a brief introduction to the purpose, structure, and key concepts such as design and systems thinking. Participants will then engage in an exercise to surface what’s currently working – and what’s broken – within the physical music ecosystem. By identifying tensions and leverage points, we create a shared understanding of systemic challenges.
The session deepens through small-group conversations grounded in sharing insights and exploring the role physical music could play in a sustainable future. A guided reflection invites participants to express their visions for the future through visual or verbal storytelling.
In the prototyping phase, teams will collaboratively develop sketches and ideas for changes to current physical music products, new products and connected business models, and share them back with the group for feedback and inspiration.
We close by collecting key insights and inviting participants to continue the conversation and collaboration beyond the workshop.
Wednesday September 24th, 3:00pm-5:00pm @ Van Beinum Zaal @ PHIL
